When Linda Richards discovered she had low bone density, she was
worried it could be a sign of an underlying condition.
But the charity worker and mum-of-two, then 36, from Newton
Abbot, had no idea she had the auto-immune condition coeliac
disease.
After suffering from pains in her hips for years, Linda went for
an X-ray, which confirmed her bone density was below average for her
age.
Linda, now 47, said: "It was just observed - it wasn't something
that was causing a problem. It doesn't cause a problem unless it is
very low and you have fractures."
But she was still concerned. So, she and her husband went to the
outpatients department at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.
