IT WOULD be easy to think that there are only two main choirs in
the Plymouth area, the Philharmonic and the University Choral
Society.
Of course these both number well over one hundred voices, but
there is a community choir of amateur singers, currently about 40-
strong, based in Liskeard, specialising in choral works of the
Baroque, and giving about six concerts each year, as well as a
Choral Singing Day when a work is rehearsed from scratch and
followed by an informal evening performance.
The East Cornwall Bach Choir was founded in 1965 by county music
adviser James Sargent, and since then has had only six directors.
