As Oklahoma City saw its lust for oil finally fulfilled, the black gold literally raining down from 1928's Wild Mary Sudik gusher, Tulsa demonstrated why it held the title "oil capital of the world" with that year's International Petroleum Exposition, a street- front trade show that brought in executives from around the globe to see the latest drilling technology and the community that sustained it.

A good number stayed at Isaiah S. Mincks' new downtown Tulsa hotel, opened for just that opportunity.

Since the IPE's 1923 start, the founder of the Mecca Coffee Co. welcomed the dynamic crowds brought to Tulsa by the exposition, the numbers sometimes estimated in the hundreds of thousands.
