WHO not recommends travel ban as flu-preventive way

BANGKOK, May 7 (Xinhua) -- The World Health Organization (WHO) does not recommend a travel ban as a measure to prevent A/H1N1 flu virus from transmitting, a major WHO official here said Thursday, considering an efficient surveillance system as most important.

Dr. Maureen Birmingham, WHO representative to Thailand, told Xinhua reporter that a travel ban may not help much on disrupting the spreading of the disease since infection cases have showed in many countries and areas, but will "definitely disrupt the economy ".
