Gay couples deserve to be able to marry

I just read Darkas Mason's letter to the editor, "Gay marriage goes against the Bible" (May 2), and I must say that I am a bit amused by it and others like it that feel marriage is so sacred a covenant that only heterosexuals are entitled to it.

Why is that exactly? Is it because heterosexuals are greater and far superior to gays? Is it because heterosexuals have done such a fine job at marriage and serve as such perfect role models for this sacred bond?

Give me a break. I've known more committed and loving gay couples who deserve the right to be married as much as any heterosexual couple.
