Article: OHCHS eyes forced student community service

OXFORD - Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School students may be required to perform 20 hours of community service, beginning with next fall's freshmen class.

"I think it's a great idea," said Don Gouin, a Norway representative to the SAD 17 Board of Directors and one of the majority of directors who approved the first reading of the measure last week. The plan must receive board approval during a second reading later this month.

The move will be fully implemented with the class of 2013. Students will be allowed to find their own community service, she said.
