On August 27, 1953, the latest trawler to be built for
Consolidated Fisheries sailed into Grimsby Fish Docks after
completing her sea trials.
She entered the 45ft lock "dressed overall" skippered by Jack
Searby, whose previous ship was the Coventry City.
He said: "She is a wonderful ship. She handles well and now all
we hope is that she is a lucky ship."
The Hull City was launched in January and the naming ceremony was
performed by Lady Marsden, the wife of Sir John Marsden, chairman of
the owning company. Just before Hull City Football Club started
their soccer game with Doncaster Rovers, at Boothferry Park, they
