LAGOS, May 10 (Xinhua) -- A 36-year-old man, Alhaji Muntari Abubakar, is now cooling off in police custody for allegedly defrauding eminent Nigerians of millions of naira using President Umaru Yar'Adua's name, the Punch newspaper reported on Sunday.

Abubakar, a native of Katsina, was leading a syndicate which specialized in promising phoney federal government contracts and influencing appointment in the presidency, police said.
