For the average Joe, Dodger-mania was in full bloom at the L.A. Coliseum in the late '50s.

"Moon shot" home runs, Duke Snyder, Gil Hodges, Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, Maury Wills, crowds that could reach up to 100,000 - what spectacles! But there still was the excitement for a new ballpark designed exclusively for baseball, rather than football or track.

The dreams of a Dodger Stadium, however, were soured somewhat by the shocking scene of women being dragged from their Chavez Ravine homes - held by feet and arms by arresting sheriff's deputies - making the average observer wince, if not fume, as the stark images etched themselves on the subconscious of the Latino community.
