Ligonier Township supervisors on Tuesday voted to grant a
conditional use permit to Ligonier-based Coal Loaders Inc. for the
second phase of a mine reclamation project on property owned by the
Ligonier Camp & Conference Center.
The company will mine roughly 20 acres on the property off Wilpen
Road. Seven acres will be reclaimed and the additional acreage is
required for operational support.
Don Lupyan, Coal Loaders general manager, said the company
extracts remaining coal from various sites and reclaims the land to
its pre-mined state as part of a government-financed program. He
added that the work would reduce hazardous conditions at the site
and improve drainage.
