It is difficult to undo the damage an 0-for-15 slump will do to a batting average -- and to a guy's psyche.

But Pirates outfielder Brandon Moss took a step forward Tuesday by matching his career high with three hits, including a two-run homer, in a 7-1 rout of the St. Louis Cardinals at PNC Park.

"It's been a frustrating couple weeks," Moss said. "I'd been feeling good. I was just late on everything they threw, whether it was a fastball, changeup, curveball, slider ... I was late on everything. So, to actually find the barrel more times in one day than I have in the past two weeks felt pretty good."
