Mat Gamel is on his way to Milwaukee.
That was the word Wednesday evening from a reliable source in
Nashville, but it remained to be seen what was in store for the best
hitter in the Milwaukee Brewers' farm system.
Reached before the Brewers' game against Florida at Miller Park,
general manager Doug Melvin declined to confirm that Gamel would be
joining the club.
"I might be able to say something after the game," said Melvin.
"But I might not."
Melvin did say that no trade was in the works, nixing the idea
that the Brewers might be moving third baseman Bill Hall to make
room for Gamel.
Highly touted prospects seldom are summoned at this stage of the
season merely to sit on the bench, ...
