Article: Town reels from threat to factory

A County councillor has expressed his sadness at plans to close an aircraft fan blade factory with the potential loss of 170 jobs.

The Derby Telegraph yesterday revealed how Airfoil Technologies International is considering closing its High Holborn Road plant at Codnor due to a fall in orders.

The company, also known as ATI-UK, repairs aircraft fan blades for aerospace companies, including Rolls-Royce in Derby.

Councillor Charles Cutting said if the factory was to close it would be a big blow for the area, which was still reeling from engineering firm Butterley Ltd shedding 51 staff.
