Article: Chrysler closings to hit Peninsula hard

Chrysler Motors announced the elimination of 789 of its 3,200 dealerships in the United States -- including three San Mateo County dealerships -- as part of a wrenching plan by the automaker to dodge oblivion.

Chrysler placed three Peninsula dealerships in Burlingame and Redwood City on the shutdown list, according to a filing in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. However, one of the Redwood City dealerships on the list closed in 2008.

The filing showed 31 dealerships in the state on the closure list.

"We are well-capitalized, have a good location and a profitable store," said Hunter Elkins, a spokesman for Redwood City's Boardwalk Auto Center, whose Chrysler store is Boardwalk Chrysler Plymouth ...
