MIKE Blair has been left out of Edinburgh's final match of the season, away to Cardiff on Sunday, as coach Andy Robinson aims to ensure the only home-based Scot selected is fit and able to take up his place in the British and Irish Lions squad that gathers in London on Monday.

The captain had made himself available, but Robinson, a Lions coach in 2001 and 2005, was never going to take the risks of the scrum-half suffering a late injury.

"We're not going to play Mike because he's in [Lions] camp on Monday," said Robinson. "He put his hand up saying he wanted to play, but it would be wrong of us insisting he did.
