Article: A man of many tastes ; Dent May brings swinging ukulele to indie music

The man in the picture above is indie singer/songwriter Dent May and, yes, that is a ukulele in his hands.

And it is through that novelty instrument, that small, four- stringed body of wood, that May found inspiration and a direction for his bubbling creative energy.

"I think guitars are kind of boring, so I'd rather pick something that's not quite as safe," May explains. "I kind of feel like it's best when you're trying to write music to be in an uncomfortable zone with the instruments you are playing. Some of the most creative moments, you're trying to figure out something you don't know how to do and something cool comes out of it."
