If you are one of the millions of people in the United States who
suffer from hay fever, then your least favorite time of year is
here. Grass pollen in the air is a common trigger for hay fever
(hence the name "hay" fever), and the spring and summer are the
seasons when all the different grass species bloom, produce pollen
and set seed. Trees and weeds are doing the same thing, releasing
tons of pollen in the process.
But what is it about pollen that causes all the misery that
people with hay fever experience? Although there are other things
that can trigger hay fever symptoms (molds, dust mites, etc.),
pollen is the big thing for many people. If you have hay fever and
