Article: WORKSHOP FOCUSES ON CITIZEN JOURNALISM

Citizen journalists, the new chroniclers of daily life and watchdogs of government, are eager for some of the same tools professional journalists have used for years: ethical standards, laws ensuring government transparency, and technology to reach a wider audience.

That's the thinking behind the Citizen Journalism Academy, a one- day workshop planned for May 9 in Denver. It's put on by the Society of Professional Journalists, one of a handful of national journalism associations. Similar workshops were held last year in North Carolina, Illinois and California.
