Citizen journalists, the new chroniclers of daily life and
watchdogs of government, are eager for some of the same tools
professional journalists have used for years: ethical standards,
laws ensuring government transparency, and technology to reach a
wider audience.
That's the thinking behind the Citizen Journalism Academy, a one-
day workshop planned for May 9 in Denver. It's put on by the Society
of Professional Journalists, one of a handful of national journalism
associations. Similar workshops were held last year in North
Carolina, Illinois and California.
