Budget-cutting at BMA

The Baltimore Museum of Art on Thursday said it will cut $900,000 from its 2010 fiscal year budget, bringing the total to $12.7 million, a 6.5 percent reduction from the current budget. While not laying off any of its 157 employees, the museum said staff members earning at least $30,000 will be furloughed for two weeks. Other cuts call for canceling this fall's ArtBlast festival, scaling back on public programs and advertising expenses, reducing salaries of top managers and maintaining salary and hiring freezes.
