Article: San Dimas knows true meaning of hero

A hero is willing to fight and die for his own and others' freedom.

San Dimas activists Gary Enderle and Janie Graef agree the word "hero" is too casually applied to non-heroic people today.

"They may be popular and good people, but they're not heroes because they didn't put their lives on the line," Enderle said. "A hero is distinctively different."

They think those serving in the armed forces during wartime and protecting liberty are heroic. This sentiment inspired the first phase of the San Dimas Heroes Project in 2005 to put "San Dimas Hero" military banners on major streets.
