The vast majority of runners would be thrilled to maintain a pace
of 7 minutes 30 seconds per mile in their next 5K race.
In her next outing, Carolyn Smith plans to run that speed for 62
miles.
The mind-boggling effort would put her across the finish line of
the 100-kilometer World Cup race in 7 hours 45 minutes, a time the
43-year-old expects would put her in the top 10, one of the world's
best ultra marathoners. The International Association of
Ultrarunners championship will be in Torhout, Belgium, on June 19.
Smith was named to her fourth USA Track & Field World Cup Team on
May 18, a day after she broke the three-hour barrier in the Cellcom
