Forty years ago amateur film maker Bill Townley produced a
remarkable film celebrating Stoke-on-Trent's VC hero, Jack
Baskeyfield. Tonight, the film which turned Baskeyfield into a
household name in the Potteries gets a special anniversary showing.
Richard Ault spoke to the director
Using actors found in a pub to fire a real artillery gun towards
tanks borrowed from the military - today, Bill Townley's epic
amateur movie could not have been made.
Health and Safety regulations alone would make it impossible to
get the film into production, let alone the logistical nightmare of
directing professional soldiers driving authentic Second World War
