MANCHESTER - If it wasn't signaled by the major-league logo
stitched to the turtleneck worn by the starting pitcher, or the
shiny bald crown that glistened when he doffed his cap, then surely
the Portland Sea Dogs roster showed that last night wasn't your
normal evening at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium.
The revelation came in the column running down the right side of
a page listing vitals for the players, which indicated the year each
broke into pro ball. For a Double-A team like the Sea Dogs, that's
typically not too long ago, evidenced by the fact that the most
popular season was 2006, and that 26 of the 27 players had debuted
since 2002 - with one rather notable exception.
