Mystery still surrounds the death of an experienced climber in a
tragedy at the Dewerstone Rock near Plymouth.
Deputy Coroner Andrew Cox recorded a verdict of accidental death
on mother-of- five Lesley Coupland from Yelverton in West Devon.
But he said there was still "no definitive answer" to the
question of how the accident happened.
A special needs teacher at Tavistock Community College, Mrs
Coupland, 58, died when she fell 30 feet from the rock near Shaugh
Prior on September 28 last year. A post-mortem revealed she died of
chest injuries, having suffered four fractured ribs and a fractured
spine.
Blood and urine tests revealed no drugs or alcohol in her system.
