A body of Topeka and Shawnee County elected officials voted Tuesday to offer U.S. Food Service up to $1 million in incentives to carry out a $13 million expansion at its distribution center at 4725 N.W. US-24 highway.

The Joint Economic Development Organization also voted to offer up to $500,000 in sales tax proceeds as an incentive to Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. to carry out a planned $250 million expansion at its Topeka plant.

Mayor Bill Bunten said that after dealing for years with rumors that Goodyear would leave Topeka, the project guarantees it will remain here "for a long time."

Both incentives got "yes" votes from all seven voting JEDO board ...
