Article: Woman sentenced in software scam

MADISON, Wis. - A Dubuque woman who made $85,000 selling hundreds of copies of pirated software over the Internet in 2003 was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Madison to six months in prison.

Kelly Garcia, 39, formerly of Boscobel, Wis., acquired unauthorized copies of 100 different software titles and began selling them on the Internet in March 2003. Some were purchased by the Business Software Alliance, which determined they were pirated copies of Macromedia software and turned them over to the FBI for investigation.
