1st LD Writethru: Tokyo stocks close at 8-month high TOKYO, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks extended its winning streak to five trading days Tuesday, with the key Nikkei index ending at a fresh eight-month closing high.

The benchmark Nikkei-225 index gained 26.56 points, or 0.27 percent, from Monday to 9,704.31, marking its highest close since Oct. 7.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 1.04 points, or 0.11 percent, to 913. 56.

Tokyo stocks remained upbeat on eased economic woes. The rally in neighboring Asian markets and the United States also boosted its rise.
