As rumors grew, so did Greg Valentine's worries.
"Everybody knew something was going on," he said. "And you always
think the worst, especially in this economy."
After 25 years at the Swiss Valley Farms bottling company, the
machine operator dreaded the thought of working elsewhere. So when
company officials strolled into the plant Monday and announced they
were selling the Dubuque facility to milk producer Prairie Farms,
Valentine cringed.
"But then they said something good," he said.
Valentine could keep his job. All of the 200 employees would. And
