- Pirates third baseman Andy LaRoche wasn't in the lineup Friday
against the Houston Astros. LaRoche's right knee was bruised and
stiff after being hit by a pitch from the New York Mets' Mike
Pelfrey on Thursday. "Hopefully, it's just a one-day thing," Pirates
manager John Russell said. LaRoche took a few swings in the cage
before last night's game and was available to pinch hit.
- Pirates shortstop Jack Wilson was back in the lineup last
night after missing a game because of a stomach virus.
- According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Pirates center fielder
