Article: Reinventing West Street

Imagine a West Street with trolleys or streetcars whistling their way down the thoroughfare's many business districts, picking up visitors and commuters at dozens of stops between City Dock and Parole.

A state study that will be released to the City Council later this month maps out a new West Street, complete with rail lines for streetcars and turnabouts at tricky West Street intersections at Chinquapin Round Road, Gibralter Avenue and Solomons Island Road.

The enhancements will encourage development and create a more aesthetically pleasing thoroughfare into the city, officials said.
