I CAN hear them now, a thousand bleary-eyed parents, yawning.
"Aye, join the club, " they sigh.
Sleep deprivation: it's one of the givens of parenthood,
alongside learning to negotiate a stairgate while drunk, and smiling
politely as the in-laws tell you you're doing everything wrong.
As the father of a young 'un, I can sympathise. I know what sleep
deprivation does to you. I remember once walking towards the wheelie
bin and pointing my car 's electronic key fob at it, and wondering
why the bin lid wouldn't open.
Then there was the time, following a micro nap after tea, I
sprang up from the couch, pulled my shoes on and was almost out the
