Tensions between black and white officials in New Orleans make front-page news and lead television newscasts. Some see these and other well-publicized disputes as representative of tense race relations among residents of a city still recovering from Hurricane Katrina, a disaster many say revealed long-standing racial disparities.

Radio stations have also dialed into the controversy, frequently using it as fodder for talk shows.
