Tensions between black and white officials in New Orleans make
front-page news and lead television newscasts. Some see these and
other well-publicized disputes as representative of tense race
relations among residents of a city still recovering from Hurricane
Katrina, a disaster many say revealed long-standing racial
disparities.
Radio stations have also dialed into the controversy, frequently
using it as fodder for talk shows.
But members of the black media say the city's more popular
stations largely champion the white point of view, a claim these
stations vehemently deny.
