Some 200 French-Arab youths split off from an anti- Israel march
in Metz, eastern France, chanting "Death to the Jews," coupled with
"To the synagogue," cries not often heard together in France since
the Dreyfus Affair, more than 100 years ago. They were turned back
before they reached the synagogue by police.
In Paris, Hamas and Hizballah flags appeared amid an
overwhelmingly Muslim crowd of tens of thousands of demonstrators
chanting "Israel - Assassins." Young radicals, their faces
concealed by Palestinian keffiyeh scarves, shouted "Tremble Jews -
the army of Mohammed has returned," before squaring off with
