For our third day in Colorado, we were up the Frying Pan and into
the Toilet Bowl.
That's the published, yet inelegant, name for the pool formed by
the discharge at the base of Reudi Dam. The outflow surges in a
heavily aerated flow between concrete walls.
To me, it looked more like a hatchery raceway than anything
connected to a wastewater system. If you have ever seen one of those
display pools where N.H. Fish and Game keeps oversized specimens,
you have an idea of what lurks in the Toilet Bowl.
I exaggerate, but only slightly. The setting at the head of this
section of the Frying Pan is wilder than a hatchery. That the fish
haven't reached lunker size on a diet of fish chow makes it ...
