Article: Lawyer guilty of stalking suspended by Md. Court of Appeals

The Court of Appeals has suspended a lawyer indefinitely for a stalking conviction, even though the Supreme Court of New Jersey, where the attorney lives, suspended him for only three months.

According to the Maryland top court's opinion, Paul Stephen Beatty of Spring Lake, N.J., pleaded guilty to fourth-degree stalking in 2007. He stalked a horse trainer at a racetrack in New Jersey and followed her home to South Carolina.

The Court of Appeals held that the conditions of the three-month suspension imposed on Beatty by the New Jersey court align best with Maryland's indefinite suspension sanction.
