Dubuque was ground zero Tuesday when it came to illustrating the
American automobile industry, at least in terms of the industry's
ebb and flow.
With drums and champagne, Doug Warthan presided over the opening
of his dealership's sparkling new Nissan showroom, part of Kruse-
Warthan Dubuque Autoplaza, overlooking U.S. 20 from Century Drive,
on the city's west side.
Meanwhile, across the highway bridge and up a hill, it was
expected that Tuesday would be the last day for Chrysler sales at
Mike Finnin Chrysler-Jeep, one of 789 dealerships marked for closure
by Chrysler as the struggling automotive company attempts to
reorganize.
