New Kids on the Block fans --who are overwhelmingly 20- and 30-
something women -- still participate in a playful adolescent
contest, fueled by their obsession with the now-grown boy band that
is coming to the Post-Gazette Pavilion on Thursday.
The game goes like this: One woman will confidently proclaim,
"I'm the bigger fan!" Then, another woman, with an ever bigger stash
of New Kids paraphernalia, will retort, "No, I'm the bigger fan!"
And on the competition goes, even more than 20 years after the
Boston boy band stormed onto the national scene with the "Hangin'
Tough" album in 1988. That marked the beginning of the New Kids on
the Block phenomenon that influenced a generation of giddy ...
