Article: Editorial: West Street needs a realistic plan, not grand ones

Think about the three main commuter arteries into Annapolis as three sisters. Rowe Boulevard - with her handsomely refurbished bridges and that wonderful view of the State House - is the glamour- puss. Forest Drive is popular - to a fault.

And West Street? She's the dowdy, overstretched workhorse who gets the job done, even if she seems to have just two speeds: headlong lunge and dead stop.

Even while they worked hard and successfully on inner West Street, city officials knew that someday they would have to tackle outer West Street, with its racing traffic, misaligned intersections, and long stretches of auto dealerships and fast-food restaurants. It isn't exactly the city's calling card.
