Article: Edward Sullivan, 95; was top aide for Kevin White

In the administration of Kevin H. White, Edward T. Sullivan was the calm, deliberate intellectual at the Boston mayor's side, trouble-shooting as needed and smoothing over relations among city officials.

White described him as "the one man in my administration who can speak for me on any occasion, anywhere," an honor that afforded Mr. Sullivan a few interesting speaking engagements.

It took him to the stage of Jack Lemmon's 50th birthday luncheon in New York City in 1975, where his 8 minutes earned him offers to appear on the Johnny Carson and Merv Griffin shows.

Mr. Sullivan died Friday at his home in Milton from pneumonia. He was 95.
