Toyota plant won't make Vibe engines

Toyota's Buffalo plant has learned that it is losing one customer for its four-cylinder engines, but a company spokeswoman said the loss is expected to have a minimal impact on the Putnam County factory.

Toyota West Virginia spokeswoman Sandy Maynard said the plant's employees were told Thursday that General Motors has decided to quit making the Pontiac Vibe in August. GM had originally said it would quit making the small car at the end of 2010.

The Buffalo plant makes four-cylinder engines for the Toyota Corolla and the Pontiac Vibe, which are both assembled in California at a plant that is jointly owned and operated by Toyota and GM.
