Burglars zero in on GPS systems

LA MIRADA - GPS systems left on car dashboards or windows are proving to be irresistible to crooks on the lookout for easy pickings.

Since Jan. 1, there have been 59 car burglaries in Norwalk, La Mirada and the Whittier county area where thieves smashed car windows in the early morning hours and filched the portable navigation devices. The vehicles were parked on driveways and residential streets.

Deputies from the sheriff's Norwalk Station are warning residents not to leave their Global Positioning System devices visible when they park their cars and to keep a record of the device's serial number.
