It's a wonder Perseus didn't drop the severed head of the Medusa
and fall backwards into the lake and the old Duke of Sutherland must
have rocked on his plinth atop a nearby hillside.
For nothing disturbed the tranquillity of the former seat of the
Sutherlands quite like the Lombard RAC Rally.
Long before monkeys came to the Trentham Estate and the site
acquired a London Eye-style ferris wheel, not to mention a retail
village, high performance saloon cars roared through the gardens.
Every year, the travelling circus of one of motor sport's premier
events descended on the lakeside beauty spot.
