Article: Mud, water clogs homes, streets day after wicked storm

With five feet of water rushing down Church Street in Turtle Creek, Joseph Onesi and two police officers needed the bucket of a backhoe to reach his children and grandson stranded on the front porch.

They became trapped while trying to evacuate, and one of the children dropped the house keys, which the floodwater washed away. After three hours, 18-month-old Nathan Cochrane was blue and shivering.

"I was so glad to get him wrapped in my arm," said Onesi, 43, who tried to swim across the current Wednesday to get to Nathan. "My wife said I was crazy. But I said, 'I'm doing it. I lived my life; he hasn't lived his.' "
