DENVER -- The Pirates on Friday were unable to cool off the
streaking Colorado Rockies and were trampled, 7-3, at Coors Field.
Colorado right-hander Jason Marquis (9-4) tossed 82/3 innings and
gave up eight hits. He didn't allow a run until the seventh, when
Jack Wilson hit a solo homer for the Pirates. Marquis hit a batter,
walked three and struck out three.
The Rockies have won 16 of their past 21 games, all under interim
manager Jim Tracy. Two-and-a-half weeks ago, Colorado (34-33) was 12
games under .500.
Tracy, who was let go as Pirates manager after the 2007 season,
took over the Rockies when Clint Hurdle was fired.
