Article: Latrobe lines up full slate of activities for July 4th celebration

Since Mary Stynchula started selling raffle tickets at the Latrobe 4th of July Celebration in 1969, she's watched the community get involved in the annual run of events leading up to the big day.

Much of what has made the holiday event special remains the same after four decades, she said.

"The people here really care about each other," said Stynchula, 76, the longest-serving member on the all-volunteer committee. "That has never changed."

That has helped the event to thrive into its 40th year.

"The entire program has always survived because of support through contributions, donations and fundraising efforts," said Carol Greenawalt, the coordinator since 1990.
