Around 50 employees are likely to be made redundant from a North
Devon firm that dates back to 1825.
The parent company of textile finisher and dyer Small & Tidmas
has announced it is to close its Bodmin factory and is in
consultation with 35 staff affected.
Tiverton-based John Heathcoat & Company (Holdings) Ltd said up to
15 workers at the Small & Tidmas headquarters in Barnstaple would
also lose their jobs. It said the move that had been prompted by the
concern's financial losses.
Small & Tidmas, which manufactures fabric for use in lingerie and
flags, was founded in 1825 in Barnstaple as the Derby Lace Factory.
It became part of the Heathcoat group in 1999.
