Our local cable company will likely to bring Web content to your
television.
According to a Cable Digital News story, the Bethpage company
will use a platform developed by ActiveVideo Networks Inc. to send
Web-like applications to subscribers. ActiveVideo's system utilizes
a central server that does most of the processing of the
applications so the individual set-top boxes in customers' homes
only have to run a small piece of software to play the content or
applications. That's because these set-top boxes normally do not
have much computing power.
Cablevision is expected to launch the service this summer, though
it's unsure which of these Web apps will be available. For example,
