Article: Sun still shines on summer camps ; Enrollment strong, but requests for financial aid seen way up

Family vacations aren't recession-proof, but it looks like summer camp might be.

While Catholic Charities has drawn headlines for closing the venerable Sunset Point day camp for urban youngsters in Hull, other camps from the South Shore YMCA in Quincy to the North River Wildlife Sanctuary in Marshfield are reporting enrollments equal to or almost the same as last year.

That matches nationwide reports from the American Camp Association, which accredits hundreds of programs for children and teenagers.

Behind those numbers, though, the economy is having an impact, here and elsewhere.
