Article: Ex-chief of Ga.-Pacific, historical park founder dies

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Robert B. Pamplin Sr., a Dinwiddie County native, former chairman of lumber and paper giant Georgia-Pacific Corp. and co-founder of Pamplin Historical Park, died Wednesday morning. He was 97.

Pamplin was born in Dinwiddie in 1911, the middle son of Pauline Beville and John Robert Pamplin. He was preceded in death by Katherine Reese, his wife of 68 years, and his brothers John William and Claude Alan.

His son, Robert B. Pamplin Jr., owner of several Oregon-based businesses including Pamplin Media Group, Community Newspapers and the Portland Tribune, said his father suffered from Alzheimer's disease.
