Article: R.S.V.P. Organizers overcome thunder, lightning to put on successful events

Everyone who plans an outdoor event in Wisconsin knows that having Plan B is a must. So with skies threatening thunderstorms worthy of a 1930s Frankenstein movie, planners for two events held June 19 moved indoors for their festivities.

The Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens held their 25th annual gala at the gardens in Whitnall Park, but tables were moved into the pavilion in advance of the looming storm.

Because of the economy, this year planners scaled back the scope of the evening, making the event strictly cocktails and hors d'oeuvres -- a plan that met with great success as attendance at the party nearly doubled over the previous year to 244.
